Let Us Help You Design Your Dream Cabin

You found the perfect Timber Ridge Estates lot for your cabin, now what? When it comes to actually designing your cabin there are certainly numerous decisions to make, which can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Thankfully, at Timber Ridge, you can build on your own timeline. This means you can take the time you need to find the right builder, and to feel confident in the final design. We recommend the following to get you started, and to hopefully unload some of the stress.

Visit Your Lot - and take lots of pictures!

Consider how you want to position your cabin. Visit your lot as often as you need, and at different times of the day.

Consider which direction you want your cabin to face. Do you prefer your front porch or back deck to face the sunset? East-facing windows get their light in the morning, while west-facing windows receive light in the afternoon and are therefore warmer.

Remember that south-facing windows receive the most light and are the hottest, while north-facing windows get the least light and are the coolest.

Other things to consider are how you want your home to interact with the surroundings such as the road, trees and the natural environment. What do you want to keep? What will need clearing? Remember, it’s all about those views, and we want you to have the best views possible.

Make a List of What You Need

Ask yourself what you absolutely need for your cabin to be both functional and enjoyable.

For example, how many bedrooms are optimal? What is the most amount of people you want to be able to accommodate? What about the number of bathrooms? What kind of cooking (indoor? outdoors?) and entertaining do you want to be able to do with friends and family?

What about laundry capabilities? What kind of storage do you require? Will a garage and/or shed be beneficial for storing equipment?

Write down anything you must have for your cabin, and keep adding to it as the ideas continue to flow.

How About Your Wants?

What about those items you’ve always dreamed of? Or those special touches that will make your cabin feel like a home?

Have you always wanted a window seat? A special room or nook to read or paint? What about a fireplace in the master bedroom? A screened-in porch? A fire pit?

Time to brainstorm and let your creativity flow. Again, write down everything. Make sure to look through magazines and online sites such as Pinterest for inspiration.

What is Your Cabin Style?

Do you desire a cabin that is more contemporary or traditional?

Do you prefer a more rustic approach or the comforts of modern life?

As you're looking through pictures for inspiration, make sure you are paying attention to what style(s) you are most drawn to.

This can help when looking for a builder to work with, including making sure there are examples of styles you prefer in their portfolio
