Sardis Lake: Everything You're Looking For, and More

When you're looking to get out of Dallas for a weekend of outdoor adventure this fall, Sardis Lake has exactly what you need. Just 3 hours north of Dallas, this secluded Oklahoma mountain paradise is a lake lover's dream.

Bring your tent or RV and camp right on the lake, or look a little further out for one of the great vacation rentals in the area.

Sardis Lake, known for it's record-setting bass fishing, is the perfect spot for boating, watersports and boasts miles of hiking and mountain bike trails. With six access points, three campgrounds, boat docks and no lake houses in sight, you'll feel like you have the place (almost) to yourself.

While you could spend the entire weekend on the lake, we recommend heading up to Robber's Cave State Park for the best rock climbing in Oklahoma, and a visit to the cave Jesse James called home. (A 30 minute drive north.) Nearer to Sardis Lake is the town of Clayton, which has its own smaller lake and state park, as well as some excellent 4-wheeling trails.

Sardis Lake is the ideal spot to explore nearby Tuskahoma, home of the Choctaw Nation Museum.

Learn about the Choctaw Code Talkers, Tribal history, and the impact Trail of Tears had on the Choctaw Nation. While you're there, stop in at the Champuli Cafe for lunch. The menu is packed with traditional Choctaw fare and cravable American favorites.

It's easy to fall in love with the peaceful beauty of Sardis Lake and southeastern Oklahoma.

When you're ready to own your own vacation home here (for a fraction of the cost of Broken Bow), we recommend touring Timber Ridge Estates, a private, gated 450 acre community just minutes from Sardis Lake. Homesites range from 2-8 acres, owners can bring their own builder, and build on their own timeline.
