Top Kitchen Design Trends to Consider for Your Cabin

We want your Timber Ridge Estates cabin to be your dream home away from home. When considering your cabin’s design, and the look and feel you desire, what better place to start than the kitchen?

The kitchen is the most used room in the house, making it truly the heart of the home. It’s where you start and end the day, and where you gather with family and friends for food, laughter and connection.

With the kitchen being such a central location, it's important to make sure it both reflects your style, and functions well for you and your loved ones.

The following seven 2023 trends in kitchen design will hopefully provide some inspiration.

While not every trend will speak to you, you might just discover something new to consider for your Timber Ridge Estates dream kitchen.

Bold Pops of Color (and Warmer Tones)

After so many years of white on white and gray kitchens, color is making a comeback. There are several ways to energize your kitchen with pops of color, from painted cabinets, to bright and patterned backsplashes.

How about setting your bar or coffee area apart by using wallpaper or painting it a contrasting color? Or painting the kitchen island base a bright color? Set your sights high on a surprisingly bold painted ceiling or go low with a colorful tiled floor.

As far as what colors to use, anything goes, but organic shades (blues, greens, browns) and highly saturated colors (think jewel tones) are definitely having a moment.

If you still prefer white or gray, warmer shades are a lovely option instead of stark white or basic gray, and both look gorgeous with a dark wood floor. And don’t be afraid to mix the warmth of wood and some bold color.

For example, paint your cabinets and keep your island in wood, or vice versa.

Butler Pantries

While you’re working on your cabin’s floor plan, why not add a special space off the kitchen? Also known as a scullery or working pantry, a butler pantry can be personalized for your specific needs.

Use it as extra storage space, a secondary food prep area, or as a coffee or wet bar - this is your chance to create something fun and functional.

Consider integrating it into your kitchen by using a matching cabinetry panel as the door, or add some warmth and architectural interest by installing a sliding natural wood door.

Larger Islands

Go big. Many folks are opting to forgo a formal dining room and instead choosing bigger kitchens with larger islands. Larger islands means both a bigger area for prep cooking and a homier option for entertaining.

Plus a larger island means more storage - how about incorporating that wine fridge you’ve always dreamed of?

Stone Slabs

The beauty and uniqueness of natural stone slabs are an exciting addition to this year's trends.

Stone slabs are perfect for backsplashes, countertops, wrapping around islands and are even able to cascade to the floor in waterfall edges or wrap around a range hood.

Stone slabs provide a seamless look, and are easier to clean as there are no grout lines to worry about - plus they’re eco-friendly, and that’s trending as well.

Sustainable Materials

What better way to honor the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains than by utilizing eco-friendly, sustainable materials?

Think wood, stone, and steel. Choosing ethically sourced and/or recyclable materials is a wonderful way to really feel good about your space, plus there are so many beautiful options available.

Consider reclaimed wood or an island with a butcher block top.

Hardware

Make a statement with your hardware choices. Go for larger and unique shaped pulls, add metal details to open shelving and MIX.

That’s right, mix your metals.

Blending finishes such as brass, bronze, stainless, nickel makes a beautiful statement when done tastefully. For example, use brass on your light fixtures, nickel for your drawer pulls and stainless for your faucet.

Let There Be Light

Windows, windows, windows. Let some of that mountain beauty into your kitchen.

Not only will you get to enjoy your favorite scenery while you cook and dine, but natural light is always the best kind of light.

Additionally, going big with statement lighting fixtures is trending this year as well. Consider pendant lighting instead of recessed lighting, and find uniquely shaped fixtures such as orbs to bring in some rounded edges.

Your kitchen should be designed to reflect the unique style and needs of you and your loved ones. We hope that some of these current trends in kitchen design have provided a bit of inspiration.
